Raising the Bar is a youth-led social initiative that provides girls from under-resourced communities with access to legal careers by igniting curiosity about the legal field. Its principal interventions include a children's book series exploring landmark rulings for the women’s movement and featuring prolific female lawyers in India. The distribution of these books via partner NGO will encourage girls to read and engage with the texts; moderated webinars with practicing female lawyers to demystify the profession for younger girls and provide a space for Q&A. Moreover, Raising the Bar aims to provide accessible fact-sheets elaborating the structure of the Indian legal system, and offer lessons specifically designed for younger readers and students. Lastly, a scholarship fund will be provided to help subsidize the costs of CLAT-prep and legal training for promising students.
Raising the Bar hopes to increase access to legal careers, support learners in overcoming socio-economic hurdles to those careers, and instill an early sense of aspiration and legal literacy in girls from marginalized sectors.
